Fortnite v42.10 Update: 7 Exciting Changes You Need to Know Today

Fortnite v42.10 Update

The Fortnite v42.10 Update is officially live today, September 3, 2026, bringing a fresh set of gameplay changes, new items, Match Overrides, Sprite improvements, mobile controls, PC performance improvements, and a long list of bug fixes across Fortnite.

The biggest Battle Royale change is the return of the Sweeper Shotgun, but this is not simply a vault return. Epic Games has reworked the weapon with a standard shotgun spread, interruptible reloads, a faster fire rate, and adjustments to its magazine size and range. The update also expands the Override experience with new Loot Hacks and additional Match Overrides such as Big Head Mode, Prop Hunt, and Action Hero.

The Fortnite v42.10 Update also introduces two new Sprites from the Design A Sprite winners, improves Sprite Mastery, adds mobile camera controls, reduces PC input latency in certain VSync configurations, and makes further Performance Mode optimizations.

Here is everything important you need to know.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Brings Back a Reworked Sweeper Shotgun

One of the headline changes in the Fortnite v42.10 Update is the return of the Sweeper Shotgun.

However, Epic Games has changed how the weapon behaves. Instead of its previous wide pattern, the Sweeper Shotgun now uses a standard shotgun spread.

The reload system has also been improved. Players can interrupt the reload and fire as soon as shells have been loaded, making the weapon more flexible during close-range fights.

Epic has also increased its firing rate while keeping the same damage output. At the same time, the weapon receives a slightly smaller magazine and shorter maximum range.

That combination should make the Sweeper Shotgun particularly interesting for aggressive players who prefer close-range engagements.

Sweeper Shotgun Changes

    • Returns to the Battle Royale loot pool.

    • Uses a standard shotgun spread.

    • Reloading can be interrupted.

    • Players can fire as soon as shells are loaded.

    • Faster firing rate.

    • Same damage output.

    • Slightly smaller magazine.

    • Shorter maximum range.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Adds New Loot Hacks

Loot is getting another layer of customization with the Fortnite v42.10 Update.

Epic has introduced a new pool of Loot Hacks that players can unlock, upgrade, and customize. The goal is to give players additional ways to influence the loot they encounter rather than simply relying on whatever appears naturally during a match.

This fits directly into the current Override theme, where Fortnite is experimenting with ways to change the traditional Battle Royale experience.

The update also makes some Loot Hack-related improvements and fixes, including issues involving ammunition from Loot Hack drops.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Expands Match Overrides

Another major part of the Fortnite v42.10 Update is the addition of new Match Overrides.

The new options include:

Big Head Mode

Everyone in the match gets a big head, creating a deliberately chaotic gameplay experience.

Prop Hunt

Players can crouch and remain still for several seconds to transform into a prop.

Action Hero

While airborne, players can enter Hangtime while aiming their weapons and deal increased damage.

Epic also confirmed another Override called Sharpshooter is coming next Thursday. It will increase weapon accuracy while reducing recoil and bloom.

Epic previously adjusted Match Overrides so they are more likely to appear two to three times during a match, while Squad Only Overrides have become slightly less common.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Adds Two New Sprites

The Fortnite v42.10 Update introduces the first two winners from Epic’s Design A Sprite competition.

The new Sprites are:

X-Ray Sprite: Periodically marks enemies within an area around the player.

Onigiri Sprite: Applies Overdrive after the player eats or drinks a consumable item.

The update also improves Sprite Mastery. It is now easier to resummon Sprites that you have already mastered, while a new Mastery reward track gives players another reason to continue collecting and mastering them.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Makes Sprite Gameplay More Rewarding

Epic is also making several smaller changes around Sprites.

Everyone drops into matches with:

    • One Golden Apple

    • Two Jellyfish

    • Three Peppers

Cheat Master Sprites appear more frequently, while 1-Up Tokens and Portable Extractors can now appear from Chests.

These changes make the Sprite system more integrated into the overall match rather than leaving it as a secondary collectible mechanic.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Improves Mobile Controls

Mobile players receive some of the most practical changes in the Fortnite v42.10 Update.

Epic has introduced a new Touch Smoothing setting under Touch and Motion.

The setting defaults to 50%, while players can reduce it to 0% if they prefer the original touch-camera feel or increase it for smoother camera rotation.

Epic says the feature follows feedback after the camera-rotation changes introduced in v41.20.

Another useful mobile improvement is Tap To Sprint From Standing.

With Auto-Run enabled, tapping the Sprint button while standing still now immediately starts sprinting in the direction the player is facing. Previously, players had to be moving before sprint would activate.

The update also fixes consistency issues involving Auto Fire and Aim Assist around the Stone Sanctum’s hidden maze walls and doors.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Improves PC Performance

The Fortnite v42.10 Update also contains changes aimed at PC players.

Epic has reduced input latency when VSync is enabled, with the biggest improvements applying to AMD and Intel GPU configurations running at 60 Hz.

Performance Mode has received additional optimization as well. Epic says low-spec configurations can now render at a noticeably higher resolution without additional GPU cost and with minimal visual difference.

For players using lower-end hardware, this could be one of the more meaningful changes in the update because it targets image quality without requiring additional GPU performance.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Fixes Battle Royale and Zero Build Problems

Beyond new content, the Fortnite v42.10 Update includes a substantial collection of fixes for Battle Royale and Zero Build.

Epic has fixed a movement issue that could prevent sprinting when the Forward Diagonal Angle setting was above 70.

Players viewed from a distance should also move more smoothly instead of occasionally appearing choppy.

Other fixes address Sonic Power Sneakers, grind rails, Cheat Codes, Sprite effects and the Sprite Summon button.

Epic also fixed an issue where mastering the Crown Sprite did not correctly grant its Cheat Master variant.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Improves Reload

The Fortnite v42.10 Update isn’t limited to Battle Royale.

Fortnite Reload receives several bug fixes, including a rare problem where Chests could open without dropping a weapon.

Epic also fixed visual and map issues on Springfield, including incorrectly displayed POI names when using ADS from the Battle Bus and floating glass that could remain after supporting structures were destroyed.

The official Reload notes also confirm additional loot-pool changes, including several unvaulted and vaulted weapons and items, along with a new Mini-Venture gameplay feature that grants a temporary Overshield bonus after eliminations.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Brings a New Save the World Ventures Season

Save the World receives a much larger seasonal update.

The Hexsylvania Ventures Season begins September 3 and runs through November 18.

The season brings back its gothic setting, while the Short Range modifier rewards close-range combat. Eliminated enemies can also drop Healing Potions.

Dungeons have returned as well, including five different Dungeons: Crypts, Inferno, Lab, Grotto and Labyrinth.

Players can complete related quests and earn Heroes and cosmetic rewards.

Refuel the Homebase Gets a Major Rework

Epic has also changed the Refuel the Homebase mission.

The previous 20-minute timer has been removed. Players now have up to four in-game days to complete the run.

Siphons are activated in sequence from A through H, with a light beam showing the current target. Each Siphon only needs to be placed and activated once, followed by a 90-second defense period.

Once six tanks have been collected, the run succeeds.

Extra tanks can also increase the player’s accolade and chances of finding a bonus loot cache.

Fortnite v42.10 Update Adds More Creator and UEFN Changes

For creators, the Fortnite v42.10 Update also includes changes to the Fortnite ecosystem and UEFN.

Epic has introduced the new Harrowville environment template and set, along with 166 new audio control buses covering music, sound effects and vocals.

The update also introduces Blend and Cut transitions for the experimental Verse Camera API and adds Mobile Preview device selection.

Another notable addition is the Social Synergy API, which is now available in Verse. It allows creators to detect a player’s party membership and use that information for systems such as party-based score bonuses, party-only doors and difficulty that scales according to party size.

Epic has also added new UEFN environment assets and made several fixes to Creative inventory tags, jetpack behavior and first-person mesh visibility.

Fortnite v42.10 Update: Fortnite Festival and Other Changes

The Fortnite v42.10 Update also improves Fortnite Festival.

Players can now restrict their Jam to party members by selecting Party Only from the access-level option in the Change Tempo/Key menu.

Jam circles can also overlap at their outer edges, reducing situations where players receive the “Too Close To Another Jam” message.

Another useful addition is support for the Jam Track Player in Creative Islands, allowing players to listen to enabled Jam Tracks without leaving their Creative experience.

Fortnite v42.10 Update: Important Bug Fixes

The update includes many smaller fixes across Fortnite.

Among the notable changes:

    • Locker sorting no longer causes the cursor to jump back to the top.

    • Vehicles are no longer incorrectly labeled with the Reload tag in the Locker.

    • The Join Crew button works correctly again.

    • Several Outfit visual problems have been fixed.

    • The Millennium Falcon Glider no longer creates unwanted visual noise with its hyperspace effect.

    • The Battle Bus should now reliably appear and fly normally at the start of Blitz matches on Android.

    • Several Fortnite OG environmental and texture issues have been fixed.

    • LEGO Fortnite receives teleportation, vehicle, POI, UI and stability fixes.

Fortnite v42.10 Update: Known Issues You Should Know

Not everything is completely fixed yet.

Epic’s current v42.10 known-issues list includes a problem where players using custom binds may be unable to pick up weapons and items or interact with objects. Epic recommends rebinding the Interact action as a temporary workaround.

Other known issues include certain cosmetic preview problems, a possible building-animation problem with custom scroll-wheel binds, Reboot Vans occasionally failing after reaching 100%, and missing or quieter-than-intended ambient audio around The Devourer’s skull in Fortnite OG.

Some Save the World, Festival and other platform-specific problems are also still under investigation.

Fortnite v42.10 Update: Our Take

The Fortnite v42.10 Update is more than a routine bug-fix patch.

For Battle Royale players, the biggest attraction is clearly the combination of the reworked Sweeper Shotgun, Loot Hacks, Match Overrides and new Sprites. These changes reinforce Fortnite Override’s focus on making individual matches less predictable.

The Sweeper Shotgun is particularly interesting because Epic has changed its behavior instead of simply returning the old version. The interruptible reload and faster firing rate could make it a strong option for players who know how to manage close-range fights, although its smaller magazine and reduced maximum range keep it from being an obvious all-purpose weapon.

The mobile and PC improvements are also worth paying attention to. Touch Smoothing gives mobile players more control over camera behavior, while the VSync and Performance Mode changes target responsiveness and performance.

Overall, Fortnite v42.10 Update feels like a meaningful mid-season refresh rather than a simple maintenance patch. It adds new ways to play while simultaneously addressing performance, controls and long-standing bugs.

Fortnite v42.10 Update: Final Verdict

The Fortnite v42.10 Update delivers a surprisingly broad package of changes for today’s release.

The most important additions are the reworked Sweeper Shotgun, new Loot Hacks, Match Overrides, X-Ray and Onigiri Sprites, improved Sprite Mastery, mobile Touch Smoothing and PC performance improvements.

At the same time, Epic has continued cleaning up problems across Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Fortnite OG, Save the World, LEGO Fortnite and Fortnite Festival.

For regular Battle Royale players, the new gameplay systems are the main reason to jump back in today. For mobile and PC players, the control and performance improvements could be just as important.

With more Override features already planned, including Sharpshooter, the current Fortnite season still has room to evolve.

In short: Fortnite v42.10 is a substantial current update that adds new gameplay possibilities while improving the overall experience across multiple Fortnite modes.
